propose a workshop
for the marigold project

proposals are due friday Sept 23rd

We are looking to create a diversely participatory environment during the opening of the Marigold Project this year. Our opening day is October 15th.

Bring your dreams, this year is about participation, action, and troubleshooting together. If you’ve seen the project and wanted to be a part of it, now is the time to get involved and deepen this trans-disciplinary community endeavor.

Workshops will take place primarily outdoors, but we do have some space indoors in the woodshop, at 425 W 9 Mile Road where the Marigold Project has taken place the last two years. They will run simultaneously with the collaborative building of an immersive installation that uses marigold blooms as the primary sculptural material. If you aren’t acquainted with the project at all take a look at our home page to get an idea of what this may look like. If accepted we will also work with you to ensure that your project fits well into the event.

We are looking for workshop proposals thematically related to community, holistic, natural, or ecological art-making practices, plants, publishing, poetry, zine-making, textile art, paper-making, or anything directly related to marigolds, their historical or contemporary uses as food, medicine, dye, symbol. This will be a hands-on outdoor event.

We will get back to you about your proposal by September 30th.

Meetup for accepted workshops Saturday October 1st.

TO APPLY

We do not have funding for workshops, and the Marigold Project is self-funded but we are interested in supporting great ideas in any way we can.  We can offer some technical and planning support but understand that this project is run by 2 people and assisted by a small handful of volunteers.  That being said, don’t let needing some support deter you from sharing your idea, we may be able to find what you need to realize your vision.

We are not charging a fee for applying or for hosting a workshop.  If accepted you will be responsible for deciding what fee to charge for your workshop, if you can accommodate a sliding scale, or if you wish to offer it free of charge.  We ask that you consider profit sharing with the Marigold team in the amount you feel is fair for hosting, organizing, and advertising for you.
